Don Casey, WWHI's Chief Executive Officer, was interviewed at Health 2.0 in San Diego, CA. Casey discussed empowering people to take charge of their own health through their role as consumers and highlighted the Institute's efforts to lower health care costs through the acceleration of wireless health solutions and infrastructure independent care. Casey also commented on the importance of well-defined business models in spurring health care innovation and gave his predictions for the health care landscape over the next two years.

Watch Dr. Joseph Smith discuss WWHI's Sense4Baby fetal monitoring prototype with JuJu Chang / ABC News

Dr. Joseph Smith, WWHI's Chief Medical and Science Officer, spoke with JuJu Chang of ABC News at the mHealth Summit in Washington D.C., where she was interviewing organizations about the latest mobile health technologies – with a focus on global health. Smith highlighted the Institute's low-cost Sense4Baby prototype, which leverages wireless technology to measure fetal heart rate and uterine contractions. Smith further discussed the ability to bring "infrastructure independent" health care to mothers regardless of where they live.

Watch WWHI's 2010 year in review highlights

December 17, 2010

2010 was a watershed year for WWHI, as it recruited its inaugural world-class leadership team, including Don Casey (CEO), Dr. Joe Smith (Chief Medical Officer and Chief Science Officer), and Dr. Mohit Kaushal (EVP of Strategy). Gary and Mary West made additional commitments to the Institute for expanded internal R&D, bringing total funding from the pioneering philanthropists to over $100M. WWHI also catalyzed the emerging field of wireless health by hosting a number of key events, including Congressional Demo Day and the first Health Care Innovation Day in Washington DC. And before year end, WWHI announced the development its first engineered prototype, Sense4Baby™, a non-invasive wireless device for fetal and maternal monitoring. The precedent has been set for an exciting 2011 – stay tuned!
