The Gary and Mary West Foundation is a private non-operating foundation that funds tax-exempt organizations in San Diego, California and Omaha, Nebraska. The Foundation was established in 2006 through the generosity of successful entrepreneurs Gary and Mary West. The couple founded West Corporation, a leading provider of customer relationship management solutions headquartered in Omaha.
The mission of the Gary and Mary West Foundation is to create new avenues for young and older Americans alike to enjoy a high quality of life.
The Foundation funds organizations that are driving innovation in the following interest areas:
- Wireless Health. Through the West Wireless Health Institute, the Foundation supports research on technologies and innovation to lower health care costs, including wireless health solutions to prevent, diagnose, manage and treat disease. We believe these applications will result in better, safer, more cost-efficient health care.
- Aging in Place. The Foundation is dedicated to assisting low-income, vulnerable seniors. It supports state-of-the-art senior centers and other home and community-based services that enable older adults to age safely and with dignity. Grants focus on meeting basic needs such as shelter, nutrition, health and socialization; enhancing an individual's ability to meet those needs; support for family caregivers; and the coordination of service delivery among and within agencies.
- Workforce Development. The Foundation focuses on strategies that prepare youth to enter the workforce, attain living wage careers and achieve economic self-sufficiency, with an emphasis on highly-focused education programs that prepare young adults with the skills needed to be successful in the career path of their choice. The approach is also to strengthen and promote programs that connect workforce training centers, schools, community-based organizations and employers to create pathways towards high-growth, high-wage careers.
- Service Animals. The Foundation's grantmaking in the area of Service Animals supports law enforcement canine units, as well as companion and service dog programs for select populations including older adults and injured military veterans.
The Foundation does not accept unsolicited requests for funding.
