The West Wireless Health Institute is one of the first medical research organizations in the world supporting the exploration and application of wireless technologies to advance human health and well-being. Founded in March 2009 by the Gary and Mary West Foundation, the independent nonprofit Institute is dedicated to innovating, validating, advocating and investing in the use of wireless technologies to transform medicine.
The Institute’s primary mission is to cut health care costs by accelerating the availability of wireless medical technology. The Institute aims to move emerging technologies quickly into the hands of patients, doctors and health care organizations—ensuring along the way that these life-enhancing and lifesaving devices are safe, secure, reliable and cost-effective.
To achieve its mission, the Institute will innovate and incubate promising wireless health technologies; validate the value of such technologies; advocate enlightened policy to accelerate their availability; advance the next generation of wireless health leaders; and collaborate through action-oriented partnerships throughout business, technology, health care and academia.
The Institute believes that low-cost sensors and wireless remote monitoring, as well as many other mobile health solutions, will enable infrastructure-independent health care, which translates into the right care at the right time, wherever the patient may be. Wireless health is a vanguard solution to improve the overall quality of health care and our quality of life. We believe we can help create a connected health care system, with solutions that are predictive, preventive and personalized.
The West Wireless Health Institute is headquartered in San Diego, California, the global center for health care innovation.
